ASC Tryout, Team Selection and Team Formation Policies

  • At the end of the current season, all teams will be disbanded.
Tryouts will then be held to pick the next season’s select teams.
No player currently on a select team is guaranteed a spot on that
    team for the next season.
  • Tryouts will be for select teams only. Select teams are teams that
will apply to play play in BAYS Divisions 1 or 2.
  • All players who wish to tryout must have already registered with the ASC for the Fall 2005 season.

  • Players who wish to play for a select team should attend both tryout dates. Players are required to attend at least one tryout to be on a select team. If a player cannot attend either day and wishes to play on a select team, they must provide the ASC Board with a written note before the final tryout as to the reason they could not attend the tryouts.

  • All players currently registered with the ASC may attend tryouts regardless what team they played on during the previous season, however, only those players wishing to play on a select team need to attend.

  • Players may choose not to attend the tryouts and wait to be assigned to a non-select team, though the ASC encourages all interested players to come to the tryouts.
  • The number of select teams at each age group will be determined by the Board based on the number of attendees at tryouts and their level of ability.

  • Any player except those in the U9 and U10 age groups may try out for a select team one year above their current age group if they wish.

  • All registered players in U11 through U14 not attending tryouts will be placed on a team that will play in BAYS Division 3 or 4. All registered players in U9 and U10 not attending tryouts will be placed on teams in the in-town league

  • A select coach cannot promise a player a position on a select team before tryouts. A select coach cannot tell a player during the actual tryout that he or she has or has not made the team

  • Select team coaches will select a roster of players in consultation with the tryout evaluators, the ASC Board coordinator, and the player evaluations submitted by the previous season coaches. All evaluators must be approved by the ASC Board. Select coaches will submit their final rosters to the ASC Board for approval. Announcement of select team rosters will be made on the ASC website (www.arlingtonsoccerclub.com) at a time to be announced at the tryouts.

  • Playing on a select team is a two season commitment, for both the fall and spring season. Players are expected to attend at least 50% of the practices and 90% of the games.

  • All other players, including those who attended tryouts but were not chosen for a select team, will be divided up under the guideline of keeping prior teams and coaches together. Therefore, after a player is assigned to a U9 and older team, that player will automatically be re-assigned to that coach and team for the next season unless 1) the team is disbanded or 2) the player is entering the U12 or U14 age group at which time teams are re-formed due to expanding roster sizes, or 3) the ASC Board decides it is in the best interest of a team, a player or the club to reassign players

  • Coaches of non-select teams may not “cut” current players or refuse to accept a newly assigned player.

  • If a non-select team feels that they can be competitive in BAYS Division 2, they may request the ASC Board to enter their team at that level. The ASC Board will review the request and determine whether the request will be forwarded to BAYS. All final division and section assignments are made by BAYS.

  • All select and non-select coaches are appointed by the ASC Board of Directors.
