BAYS Player Selection Process

This is a sampling of the process from which a player is selected to BAYS:

Step 1 Coaches prepare the Players Evaluation Form
All coaches rank their team players from 1 to 5 on their Technical Skills, Physical Attributes, Defending Ability, Tactical Awareness and Practice Behavior.  The coach submit their findings onto a Player Evaluation Form (see below).  This form is send to the Board Of Directors (BOD).

Please Note:
All current select team coaches should remember that select team positions are appointed by the BOD and need to be reappointed each year.

Step 2 BAYS Coach Selection
Existing coaches are asked to whether or not they are planning to return and coach next season.  If new coaches are required, names and applications must be submitted to the BOD for final approval and selection.

Step 3 BAYS Coach Meeting
Tryout procedures and coaches responsibilities are discussed in this meeting.

Please Note: This meeting is also open to any other coaches who wish to gain a better understanding of the select teams and the procedures of Tryouts.

It is up to the BAYS coach to assign/gather help from some of their parents to help out during registration.

Step 4 Tryout Schedule is Announced
A Tryout schedule defining the time, location and age group is defined and announced to all members of the soccer club via email and posted on the website.  Each age group will have two Try Out dates.  Each Try Out will last 2 hours.

For Spring 2004:

                         - Registration starts at 5:30pm
                         - Try Out start at and continues from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Step 5 Interested Boys and Girls Register and Attend the Tryouts
All interested parties must sign in and register with the BAYS coach on the day of the Tryout at the specified field.

A player must attend at least one try out.  It is to the benefit of the player to attend both sessions.  If he/she cannot make both Tryouts, they should notify the coach during registration, so that it can be noted on the sign-up sheet.

During registration, each player is assigned a number.  The player affixes that number onto their pant leg. From then on, each player is only known by their number by the evaluators and coaches.

For each age group pairing, e.g. boys U9-10 , one BOD member will be available to oversee & organize registration.  Parents can be enlist to help during the registration process.

Step 6 Try Out Forms are Distributed
Each Coach and evaluator is given a copy of the Tryout Form (see below).  Each candidate's "assigned Number"  is printed on the form.

Step 7 Tryouts Commence
Coaches and evaluator set up different game scenarios to see how each player performs.  The task of the evaluator is to use the "Tryout" forms to "check off" the performance level of each player during the different playing scenarios.

Various scenarios include:
                                        - Small Team Games
                                        - Scrimmages

After the two hours are over, all the forms are collected and are to be reused during the second try out.

Step 8 Tryouts are Completed
After the second try out is completed, the coaches and evaluators convene and discuss rankings on what they have seen and written about each player.  The coaches collects all the Tryout forms, the Coaches Player Evaluation forms (from Step 1), and all of the evaluator's input to put together the Select Team's Roster.

Step 9 BAYS Roster Approval Process
The coach puts the team roster together on paper and submits it to the Board of Directors for approval.

Step 10 Players are Notified
Once the roster has been approved, the coach notifies all the players.
The coach must first call any player that has been cut.
All new or remaining players will be notified consequently.

Once all the players have been notified, the team rosters will be posted on the ASC website.

Step 11 Select Team Rules
- Two season (Fall and Spring) committed from the player
- Must come to at least 50% of practices and 90% of the games
