 Practice Field
Practice Field Assignments are completed and online.
See below.  If you have not requested a practice field,
take a look at what is not assigned and send an email to
jwah2002@yahoo.com. We will try to accommodate you as
 best we can.

You can start your practice on August 31st.

Unauthorized moves of practice time or location is not
acceptable.  All practices must be approved by the ASC
 Board.

 Make-Up Schedules
If your game gets rained out, you need to work with the
opposing coach to set up a makeup game. If your game is a
home game, you need to coordinate this with our field and
referee assignor, Paul Athanasiadis at Paul2319@aol.com.

A recommended way to do this is to talk to the opposing
coach to come up with two or three possible days and times,
then to email these to Paul. He will then assign you a day,
 time, field and referee
.

 BAYS Game Attire
Uniforms:

• If you have too many uniforms please notify your division director and return back the highest numbers please

• If you are short uniforms please notify your division director

• That may not happen week 1 and the jerseys are the same as last years, so please work with your players to wear last years jerseys if necessary.....duplicate numbers may be OK at your match but bring tape in case

Shorts and socks:

Please make sure your team, when on the game pitch, looks like team kit-wise, so:

• All ASC players must wear black shorts.

• They do not need to wear the shorts we give them but only minimal piping is allowed. No wide stripes. Different logos are OK.

• You can choose to buy different black shorts as team but the rule above apply.

• All player must wear the same color socks. They can be the socks the ASC provided this fall or you can order socks as a team or you can ask your ASC Division Director for a teams’ worth of white socks which we have in storage.

The laws of the game say all players should wear the same kit. The referee has the authority to sit down a player wearing different colors from their team’s colors. It is also conducive to team unity and spirit to follow this simple rule. My observations over the years tell me that teams that dress differently for matches are the least disciplined teams.

Finally, encourage and if necessary insist your players wear their gray practice jerseys or an adequate-colored substitute to practice. It will help you run a more efficient practice.

Reminder to wear the gray practice jersey as a game jersey at any home game against an opponent whose jersey is red or maroon

Parents Meeting Resources:

As players and parents are both often new to the game and the soccer world, it is extremely important to communicate with parents. This should be the job of both the team coach and the organization. At the start of the year, we recommend you (coach) hold a parent meeting to clarify goals and expectations for the team. Initiating this communication will help prevent confusion and stunt potential problems. It is recommended that you have something in writing to hand to parents at this meeting. By doing this, you are insuring that your words are not being misconstrued. If there is a concern down the line, you can reference the document to provide clarification.

In this document, it is important that you list your coaching philosophy and your goals for the team and players. It is also important you discuss attendance expectations and disciplinary measures as these areas are often the genesis of most problems. You may wish to inform parents how and when they can contact you if they have questions. Questions about players should not be asked in front of other players or other parents. Parents should not be asking questions during a game or practice or at any time you are with the team. Coaches have been known to have parents call at midnight or at 6 am to talk about their children. If you do not want this to happen, clarify that in your meeting and on your handout. Lastly, make sure to address sideline behavior as well. Parents need to remember that they are role models for their children and uncontrolled behavior on the sideline is not acceptable. Each meeting will differ based on the age and level of the players you are coaching. Attached are sample handouts for a parent meeting; turning these items into bullet point might be more effective with many parents.

Facts to remember:

 Passcards
 (BAYS only)

New BAYS coaches need to have passcards made. These cards
verify that you are a coach registered with the club and BAYS
and must be presented to the referee along with two copies of
your team rosters at each game. Please bring an approximately
1" x 1" headshot photo of yourself. This can be cut from a
larger picture. We do can do this at the coaches meeting or
 contact our club  registrar
Linda Kirchner at

registrar@arlingtonsoccerclub.com

 Goal Post Safety
With the start of the season we want to remind you about goal
post safety. We had one unfortunate incident a few years ago
when a small sided goal blew over, striking a player in the head.
The good news was that the player, while injured, did not
sustain serious injury. We all were very lucky.

Every goal should be secured to the ground for all practices
and games. Most goal post injuries occur either in practice or
before or after a match. It is critical that everyone take this
issue very seriously and ensure goals are secured.

 Corner flags
 - First team on Field brings corner flags (Saturday only)
 - Last team on field:
   + Removes flags (Saturday only)
+ Removes goalposts and sandbags from Hurd, Bishop and
      Florence (Saturday and Sunday)
+ Pull goalposts and sandbags back on all other fields

 Game
 Cancellation
 or Rescheduling
Coaches cannot cancelled their games on their own due to rain
or bad weather. While playing in the rain is not the most
appealing thing, there is no reason to cancel games if the fields
 are open.

Please remember that referees are assigned to all of these
games, and the referees for these cancelled games did their job,
and showed up to work, as they should have. If there are no
messages on the ASC hotline or our website that designated any
field closings - the ASC must now pay these referees, and then
pay for another set of referees to do the makeup games.

Coaches DO NOT have the authority to cancel games on their
own. If fields are open, you need to play. The only parties able
to cancel games are the ASC and the referees, if they deem that
there is a safety issue. Rain by itself is not a reason to cancel a
 game.

If you have any questions about whether fields are open or
closed, you can do one of three things:

 1) Call the ASC hotline at 781-641-4085. The line will be updated
by 7:30am for morning games, and 10:30am for afternoon games

 2) Check this Website. We have a new feature that allows us to
put a message right on the home page if fields are closed

 3) If all else fails, and you are still confused, call your division
 director.

Rain Delays:  Please check the Arlington Soccer Club hotline Saturday morning
to find out if games are cancelled.  The phone number is:
 781-641-4085.

We will have a message recorded by 7:30 am if morning games
are cancelled and a message recorded by 10:00 am if afternoon
 games are cancelled.

IMPORTANT: please tell parents to contact you, don't have
them call the hotline.  The answering machine quickly gets
overwhelmed.  Only coaches should call the hotline.

If your game gets rained out, you need to work with the
opposing coach to set up a makeup game.  If your game is a
home game, you need to coordinate this with our field and
 referee assignor, Paul Athanasiadis at
Paul2319@aol.com.
A recommended way to do  this is to talk to the opposing coach
to come up with two or three possible days and times, then to
email these to Paul.  He will then assign you a day, time, field
 and referee.
