Interested in being a Referee:

The Arlington Soccer Club is always looking for people interested in becoming paid soccer referees.  Pay starts at $15/game.  Games are assigned on Saturdays (mornings and afternoons) and Sundays (afternoons).  Referees submit availability schedules to the referee assignor but should expect to work about one game per weekend to start. All referees must be at least 13 years old or in 7th grade.

If you are interested, please go to

                    http://www.massref.net/Central/courseofferings.cfm

This is a link to all referee certification courses offered in the state.  Courses are not offered in Arlington.  However, there are several nearby towns, such as Chelmsford, Peabody, Newton, Natick, Woburn and Braintree that offer the courses.  First time referees 14 and younger should apply to the Grade 9 course. The Grade 9 course certifies a referee for small-sided games and as an assistant referees on 11 v 11 games.  Older referees can either apply to the Grade 9 course, or if they are interested in refereeing 11 v 11 games, they can apply to the Grade 8 course.

If you have any questions, please contact Paul Athanasiadis, the Arlington Referee Assignor, at
Paul2319@aol.com.

 Referee
 Assignment
Rules of Engagement:

Unavailability must be posted by the Sunday night prior to each weekend's games. I will be posting assignments each week on Monday based on your unavailability. If you do not enter unavailability for a particular date and time, it is open to me for assignment. Keep in mind that the times that you list are based on starting times of games. For example if you post that you cannot work from 1-3pm, the web site will still open you up for a 12:30pm game but will not allow me to assign you a 3:00pm game, so please post based on game stating times.

Once assignments are posted on Monday you must go into your account and accept the games. Once the assignment is posted you own the game. If you cannot do it, you must reject it and then find a replacement for the game and email me with who that is. All of this must be done by WEDNESDAY of each week. I do not want to be chasing people again this year on Thursday and Friday to get them to either accept their games or to find out who is covering for them. Please accept your games in a timely manner. If you stay on top of your unavailability you should never have to worry about having to reject games and replace yourself.

Contact info for all ASC referees is available to everyone on the front page in your account on the left, under the USO Today News section. You can use that if you need to other referee contact info to replace yourselves on a game.

Payment for ALL Fall games are done on ASC pay sheets, which are available on the ASC web site to be downloaded. These cane be sent in as often as you like for payment. The treasurer generally pays every few weeks.

If you are no longer interested in working ASC games, please let PaulA know so we can delete your account and you will stop getting these emails.
Reminders - Make sure you wear your badges on your shirt.
- Arrive at the field at least 15 minutes before game time.
- Players must wear the necessary equipment.
- Shin pads are mandatory, cleats are not.  Sneakers may be worn.

Please Notify people that have volunteered to do a game that was up for grabs on email. We had multiple referees show up to do the same game last weekend because of poor communication.

 About U8 Games - U8 is 5v5 (4 field players plus a goalie)
- We use 6v6 fields, but the goals are moved to the side lines.

The game is played across the 6v6 field, using the 6v6 center line as one side line and the 6v6 end line as the other side line. In other words, only half of the 6v6 field is used.
